Monday Bengals Notes

From www.bengals.com:

There is some news out of Georgetown College as the Bengals hit the practice field for their 9 a.m. session:

» Veteran running back Kenny Watson and fullback J.D. Runnels, Jr. have been released. Watson saw action in 10 games for the Bengals last season, with 55 rushing yards on 13 carries and three receptions for four yards. He has 83 career NFL games played, with 1651 rushing yards and 1015 receiving yards. Runnels, Jr. did not see game action in 2008, but he was on the Bengals practice squad for a portion of the season and was signed to the team's 2009 offseason roster on Dec. 30, 2008.

» Jason Shirley has taken off his No. 97 jersey and put on a No. 70 jersey. It looks like the team is going to tinker with him playing a little at the guard spot.

» Linebacker Keith Rivers is back on the field practicing, while fellow linebacker Rey Maualuga, defensive end Frostee Rucker and wide receiver Antonio Chatman are not dressed.

» Tight end Daniel Coats is not in pads but dressed and working with rehab trainer Nick Cosgray.

This is most likely the most disappointing news of the offseason. Kenny Watson is what we like to call one of those "NEW ENGLAND PATRIOT GUYS". What do we mean? He is one of those veteran's that has provided stability, professionalism, and production but is overlooked. New England has guys that are those dependable production guys and that is what Kenny Watson was to the Bengals. We hate to hear of his release and wish Kenny well in the future.

This could potentially mean one thing that Bernard Scott is really showing that he is going to be a stud in this league. I hope he can catch and block out of the backfield. That is what Kenny Watson brought to the field each and every time he was there on third downs. I hope this is not going to come back and bite the Bengals in the butt.
