The Bengals made room for their new rookies by releasing five players yesterday afternoon. Two running backs Chris Perry andGary Russell, defensive end/linebacker Eric Henderson and tight end Nate Lawrie, and safety Mike Doss.
The Bengals have had a wonderful offseason with picking up Laveranues Coles and Tank Williams and resigning some key guys. The draft was remarkable and unbelievable in the minds of many!
The releases though some make sense Perry, Henderson and Lawrie to make room for Michael Johnson, Bernard Scott, and Chase Coffman. Doss was just never very productive which is really awful due to the amount of talent out of Ohio State he displayed in a short time with the Colts before his injury. This could be a move to also allow room for the signing of Roy Williams...FINGERS CROSSED!
Perry could not hold on to a ball if it was taped to his arm last year. Though he has freakish athleticism his skills just have never translated to the pro game. Gary Russell, wasn't he the guy that was just picked up? I was actually excited about this addition and now he is gone before we could ever see him in stripes. Understandably I guess considering the legal implications that are surfacing and surrounding him right now made the Bengals leary to keep another criminal.
I worry that losing those two RB's though with their experience will be very bad again for the Bengals if Cedric gets hurt. The only remaining backs on the roster are Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott, James Johnson, DeDe Dorsey and Kenny Watson.
